The Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco is where America's first Irish coffee was made in 1952. Irish coffee was invented by Irishman Joe Sheridan when he was working in Foynes Airport in Co Clare. The Buena Vista Cafe flew over Sheridan himself to help them with their recipe. This whiskey was specially made for them at Midleton to put into their ca. 2,000 Irish coffees per day! It's now discontinued, replaced first by Jameson and now by Tullamore Dew. It's a light blend with slightly spicy notes, giving the coffee a nice kick.

This special Bushmills is a mix of the classic Bushmills malt whiskey and Bushmills malt aged entirely in a Caribbean rum cask. We can presume that because it says 'Select' on the label, some thought went into its composition! Rated very highly by whisky writer Jim Murray, it's surprisingly dry and maybe not as fruity as the regular bottlings from this distillery. A once-off bottling for travel retail, it really shows the versatility of Bushmills malt.

The Celtic Whsikey Shop in Dublin filled an Alestino estate wine cask with an unpeated single malt that had spent 11 years in a bourbon cask. Three years of further maturation has given this malt a beautiful chocolate bronze colour. The whiskey has picked up lots of the rich raisin and coffee flavours from the Brunello di Montalcino Italian red wine, which lingers long into the finish.

Celtic Cask â Cuig was triple distilled in Ireland in 1991 and was matured in a first fill Bourbon cask for over 13 years. It then spent the next 8 years out of cask before we rescued it from the angels grasp! It was bottled as a Celtic Cask in September 2013. This is Irish Single Pot Still whiskey from a distillery who's identitiy we are not allowed to reveal.

This is a rare and truly special treat. In the late 1980s and early 1990s an Irish distillery was making batches of a style of whiskey it's not usually associated with - double-distilled, peated single malt. After 22 years maturing in a bourbon cask, the Celtic Whiskey Shop transferred it to a port pipe from one of Portugal's finest wine makers, Quinta do Noval, where it spent a further two years. The extra maturation has given the malt great complexity and bold, fruity flavours. Highly recommended.

A delicious, peated single malt that was double distilled and initially aged for eleven years in an ex-Bourbon barrel. It was then transferred into a red Rhone wine cask from Domaine Des Anges for an additional finishing period of around four years.

The whiskey was initially aged for 10 years in a second fill bourbon cask. In October 2011 this cask was emptied to fill an Ànima Negra Mallorcan red wine cask. Dry & bold on the palate with an instant punch of peat smoke. With time it becomes more sweet fruit dominated with flavours of dried fruits, red apples, orange peel and a hint of toasty oak.

Celtic Cask Do Dheag is a double distilled Irish single malt that was initially aged in a Bourbon cask for 10 years. This was followed by nearly 5 years in a red wine Syrah barrel from Domaine Des Anges based in the Ventoux area of France's Rhone valley.

Celtic Cask Fiche a Naoi was double distilled at the Cooley distillery and first matured in fresh bourbon barrels for 19 years. It was then recessed in a red wine barrel from the Mallorcan winery Anima Negra. AN is one of Spain's finest wines. Full-bodied in a sweet, fruity and spicy style. Flavours of red fruits, mace and nutmeg.

Celtic Cask Naoi Deag is our nineteenth special release in our line of exclusive whiskeys. This time we sourced a double distilled malt that had been matured in an ex-Bourbon cask for 23 years. Part of this cask was then re-casked in a 50 litre Vin Santo Caratelli from Altesino for over 2 years. Altesino is one of the finest wineries in Italy. Only 59 bottles were produced.
